Why do air-cooled Deutz 912/913 engines require specialized oil filters?
Air-cooled engines rely entirely on engine oil for internal cooling of pistons and cylinder heads. This exposes the lubricant to higher temperatures than in water-jacketed engines. Standard automotive oil filters can suffer from gasket hardening and paper degradation under these conditions.
